YOUTH VOLUNTEER SOCIETY OF NIGERIA BACKGROUND
The youth volunteer society of Nigeria “YOVSON’’ is a non-profit, non-governmental and nonreligious organization registered under the Companies and Allied Matter Act (CAMA) 2020 with the sole aim of assisting the Local, State and Federal Government of Nigeria in addressing societal ills prevalent among young people and to create a platform for the physical and mental development of the youths through mentoring and scholarship.
YOVSON was formed after a careful thought and spurred on by the budget 97 speech of the then head of state and commander in chief of the Armed forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Gen. Sani Abacha appeals to Nigerian Youths thus:
“Fellow Nigerians, the way forward, every individual has a role to play in the task of nation building as none else can do it for us. We must put into proper use of our well-endowed resources, talented expertise to face the crucial challenge of our time. Having realized the problems that has been with us for several decades now, we have no option but to find appropriate solution out of our own initiative and commitment the key to success is hard work productivity and sense of patriotism, I hereby call on Nigerian youths especially our young men and women to rebuild the nation”.
Nigeria has one of the highest demography of young people in the world. According to population projection by the United Nations for 2020, about 62 percent of the Nigerian population is youths between the ages of 15-24 years. Nigeria’s strength is in her young population and we must do everything to keep our youths physically and mentally healthy. YOVSON as an organization will provide the platform for Nigerian Youths to thrive. YOVSON will engendered amongst our young people the sense of self-worth and patriotism to the Nigeria Nation.
When we build our population of young people who are hardworking and productive, certainly Nigeria will be the greater beneficiary.
